Atlas of remote Islands

Play and music based on the book by Judith Schalansky

Picture: Caspar Urban Weber

The author and illustrator Judith Schalansky
tells the stories of remote islands. 50 stories of shipwrecking, adventurers and shady discoverers. Some of theses Islands are a natural paradise, some are deserted or dull. Some were populated, some were used for nuclear tests. However, islands still serve as a destination that many long for. They often evoke a strong urge to travel, despite imponderability, uncertainty or hindrances.

In this evening, the director Tom Schneider, an expert for living remote from the ordinary, guides escaping citizens, searchers and the unwillingly stranded on an inner trip and into the light of self-awareness. At the end of this musical and theatrical journey everyone returns back home – to Switzerland, a place that could be thought of as a fantastic island. An atlas arises out of pure imagination, too.
