The solitary decision of a single woman prevents the dispersal of violence. Already 2500 years ago «Tauris»– today's Krim – served as a war setting on the peripheries of European influence. The peninsula was considered «barbarian» with a totalitarian regime that entailed routine exercising of human sacrifice, according to reporting of the ancient world. In his «Iphigenia in Tauris» Goethe however, instigated an ideal of a genuine humanity that should be applied to all people. The «barbarians» prove the Greek wrong. The Europeans are unable to severe this entanglement with violence. Any deception, they think, is justifiable. At this point Iphigenie shows how seriously she takes «human rights» and rejects the logic of military thinking. What seems implausible becomes real. Iphigenie anticipates what today's European thinking can provide against reciprocal violence.
